All cadets are taught basic first aid within the first six months of joining the Squadron. The Air Training Corps considers First Aid to be a vital skill, not just for cadets taking part in activities but as something they can take with them into the community.
Initially training starts with the British Heart Foundation course Heart Start. This covers CPR, recovery position, bleeding, choking, recognizing the symptoms of a heart attack and dealing with an unconscious person.
Cadets can do further training with St John Ambulance’s course Youth First Aid. This is a nationally recognized First Aid qualification. Cadets with a real interest in first aid can qualify to become instructors themselves.
Training is carried out on the Squadron by fully qualified cadets and civilian instructors.
